Mikael Granlund Traded to Dallas as Trade Market Tightens

Another big name is off the board, as pending UFA center Mikael Granlund has been traded to the Dallas Stars, according to Kevin Weekes via X.

Granlund, one of the most coveted rental players on the market, has been enjoying a strong season with 15 goals and 45 points in 52 games for the San Jose Sharks. His offensive production and versatility make him a significant addition to an already deep Dallas roster, solidifying their top-nine forward group as they prepare for a Stanley Cup push.

Trade Details

To Dallas:

  • Mikael Granlund (C)
  • Cody Ceci (D)

To San Jose:

Conditional 3rd Round Pick

1st Round Pick (2024)

What This Means for Toronto

With another top rental center off the board, the Toronto Maple Leafs are running out of options. Brad Treliving and the Leafs’ front office have been actively searching for a middle-six center, and Granlund would have been a strong fit.

As the March 7th Trade Deadline draws closer, Toronto must act fast. With fewer high-quality options available, the pressure is mounting for the Leafs to make a move that strengthens their depth for the playoffs.

Will Treliving and company find the right piece before the market dries up? The clock is ticking.

Stay tuned.
